Most home renovation budgets in Bengaluru don't blow up because of one big mistake — they blow up from five small ones that never made it onto the original quotation. If you're planning an interior renovation budget for the first time, these are the costs that catch people off guard most often, based on patterns we see across hundreds of projects a year.

1. Civil work that "wasn't supposed to be needed"

Old plumbing lines, uneven walls, or electrical points in the wrong place are common in resale apartments — and they're almost never visible until the carpentry team is actually on site. A responsible interior contractor should flag likely civil work risks at the site visit stage, before the quotation is finalised, not after work has started.

How to protect against it

2. Hardware and finish upgrades during execution

Soft-close hinges, heavier drawer channels, upgraded laminate finishes — these are the most common "while we're at it" upsells that happen mid-project, usually once you've already committed emotionally to the design. They're not scams; they're genuinely better hardware. But if they're not priced into your original home renovation cost estimate, they add up fast across a full kitchen and two wardrobes.

"The brands and hardware grade should be named in your quotation, not decided on-site. If a quote just says 'branded hardware' without naming which brand, ask before you sign." — Anvith Achar, Purchase Head, Behomez Interior

3. False ceiling and painting scope creep

A quotation that covers "false ceiling" for the living room often gets compared, mentally, against a full-home false ceiling — leading to disappointment when bedroom ceilings are billed separately. Painting has the same issue: full-home painting and "touch-up painting" are very different scopes that get confused in casual conversation with a contractor.

4. Delivery delays that cost you in rent or EMI overlap

This one doesn't show up as a line item, but it's a real cost. Every extra week your renovation runs past its promised delivery date is a week of rent, EMI, or storage costs you didn't plan for. This is why a tracked timeline with milestone payments — not just a target date — matters more than people realise. Our own 30–40 day delivery window is tracked against milestones specifically to catch delays early, not after they've already cost you money.

5. "Complimentary" items that aren't actually included

Watch for renovation packages that advertise several complimentary add-ons but only actually include one per project, or require a minimum package value to unlock them. Read the fine print on what "complimentary" means — is it one item of your choice, or all of them?

The real fix: ask for a fixed quotation, not an estimate

An "estimate" can move. A fixed quotation, with milestone-based payments, can't — which is exactly why we structure every project this way. Before you finalise any interior designer in Bengaluru, ask them to convert their estimate into a fixed, itemised quotation and see how much (if anything) the number changes.

We'll walk your site, flag likely civil work risks upfront, and give you one number that doesn't move.
